Research we Fund

Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation

The Multiple Sclerosis Scientific Research Foundation is the largest fund in the world dedicated strictly to MS research. The Foundation funds research projects beyond the scope of the MS Society’s regular research program. It is a unique Canadian resource. Because of the Foundation, highly innovative large collaborative research studies are underway.

Originally established in 1973, the MS Scientific Research Foundation became an active funder of MS research in the early 1990s. It is related to the MS Society of Canada, which is its main funding source. In addition, several of the Foundation's directors are members or past members of the MS Society's National Board of Directors.

The Foundation also funds small, pilot grants, which are unique among MS research approaches in Canada. Funding is limited to one year and to a maximum of $35,000. After that time, the researcher is expected to have found out if the idea is a good one, and if it is, to move into the usual MS Society funded research program.
