Ontario Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) recognized
the “power of the flower” on May 13th as
awareness events were held at Queen’s Park. MPPs wore carnation
boutonnières to show their support.
The MS Society of Canada, Ontario Division, also met with
several MPPs throughout the day and hosted an MS Awareness
Reception for volunteers and board members, staff, MS researchers,
and MPPs and other government officials.
Several key officials attended the reception, including the
Honourable Margarett Best, Minister of Health Promotion, who
spoke at the event, the Honourable John Wilkinson, Minister
of Research and Innovation, France Gélinas, the New
Democratic Party’s Health and Long-Term Care Critic,
and Laurie Scott, the Progressive Conservative Party’s
Research and Innovation Critic.
MPPs were asked to improve access to home care and age-appropriate
housing, and were updated on the endMS Research and Training
Network.
The Honourable John Wilkinson, Minister of Research and Innovation, and Dr. Brenda
Banwell, MS Pediatric Clinic Director at The Hospital for Sick Children wear
carnations in support of MS Awareness Month.
MS Society President and Chief Executive Yves Savoie and Ontario Division Board
of Directors Member Colin Rickards thank the Honourable Margarett Best, Minister
of Health Promotion for lending her support to MS Awareness Month.
